Power Shift ’09 tomorrow

Well, to tell you the truth, we just got a small frame for X-MAS, and I think it’s awesome. The way I get around all the electricity usage is by turning it off when I’m not in the room. And guess what? It’s on top of the TV, and since I’m on the computer much, much more than any TV being turned on, guess how much electricity is being wasted by our digital picture frame? Next to nil IMO.

Oh yeah, I watch my pictures go by when I have the commercials muted too.

‘Cash for clunkers’: You can buy mine now!

From Uncle Sam’s Sandia National Laboratories:

CAES facilities function like big batteries. Electric motors drive compressors that compress air into an underground geologic formation during off-peak electric use times like evenings and weekends. Then, when electricity is needed most during high-demand times, the pre-compressed air is used in modified combustion turbines to generate electricity. Natural gas or other fossil fuels are still required to run the turbines, but the process is more efficient. This method uses up to 50 percent less natural gas than standard electricity production.

“Our coast could be the Saudia Arabia of wind power, but the report doesn’t even mention it,” said Ben Moore, energy and climate program director at the South Carolina Coastal Conservation League. “And because we’re among the most wasteful states in the country when it comes to energy use we have tremendous upside in efficiency upgrades but the report also omits studies done showing that tremendous potential.”

S.C. has plenty of coastline to stagger turbines off of for wind power, just like Denmark has been doing since 2002. If we built a storage area underground for all the free, clean wind we have access to offshore, it would not only be 50% cleaner, but also save costs.

Forget Dirty Coal, Go Clean With CAES

Obama: Repower, Refuel, and Rebuild America

Tell the truth now, did you invest in railroad stocks like the ‘Oracle of Omaha‘ did last year?

It would’ve been a better bet than getting behind The Pickens Plan since wind energy has hit a snag in today’s economy.

While there are high hopes of wind-powered technology for all of us in the future, even nature’s free blowing winds have an uphill battle against that other source of energy: natural gas. It’s falling price is too great a force for wind-powered technology to go up against right now.

So once again, Warren Buffet had the insight to think ahead – a full year ahead no doubt – and invest in the transportation mechanism our other oil alternatives like coal and grain need: trains.

And even though I was smart enough to get in on his Berkshire bandwagon back when it was ‘only’ $1800, today’s $3300+ price tag shows I’m not the investment guru I wish I was; full steam ahead to the rest of you though!
