Under new government CIO, M$’s days are really numbered now

March 7

You couldn’t help but wonder what was gonna come out of Eric Schmidt smoozing up to the D.C. folks during Pres. Obama’s final campaign days, but it’s pretty apparent now Google has a strong foothold on America’s technology going forward.

With 34 year old Vivek Kundra in place now as Pres. Obama’s CIO, isn’t life grand? – for him and us! :-)

It takes 50 gallons of water to make 1 latte

March 2

I tried switching to green tea awhile back, but I was getting some strange allergic reaction – tiny bumps on my skin all over – so my dreams of Asian enlightenment were obliterated and I just reverted to my longtime favorite: white chocolate mocha.

A video from the WWF is teaching us that industry needs to do more by using less water in the process:

btw: If you pick up the same flavored syrup from Whole Foods or Starbucks, you can make flavored coffee at home for a whole lot cheaper. A little peppermint and cocoa powder, and I’m set!

Why Circuit City always sucked

January 27

The last time I walked in a Circuit City store was back in ’96 when I was looking for a 2nd job to pay off some bills faster. I kid you not, the manager in Columbia actually told me that, “we often bring people in with the coupons, but only have 1 or 2 in stock, just make sure you sell them something”.

He actually said that in an interview! Anyway, just off YouTube from their recent ‘sales’ no doubt:

Steve Loquist Makes Primetime

November 1

Nat’s dad was raking the yard over at his mother-in-law’s the morning after a tragic house fire killed the elderly woman that lived next door. Columbia’s ABC News aired their coverage that evening.

Diebold Voting Machines Still Fail Security

October 24

When you walk into your voting booth, be very concerned if you see the voting machine pictured here. Diebold's AccuVote TS voting machineIt is the AccuVote-TS model from Diebold.

Princeton University’s Center for Information Technology Policy has published a non-partisan report disclosing security vulnerabilities researchers have detected in this voting machine.

Main findings from Princeton University’s Voting Machine Security Analysis include:

  1. Malicious software running on a single voting machine can steal votes with little if any risk of detection. The malicious software can modify all of the records, audit logs, and counters kept by the voting machine, so that even careful forensic examination of these records will find nothing amiss. We have constructed demonstration software that carries out this vote-stealing attack.
